Armed tribal clashes leave five dead and several injured

As armed tribal clashes continue unabated in Sukkur and Larkana divisions, human casualties are increasing. Five men were shot dead in two separate incidents on Thursday in Khairpur district. A long vendetta between the Ulra and Jatoi clans in the Prialo area claimed four lives and left several injured, including a passerby from a minority community.

Three of the deceased belonged to the Ulra caste, while one was from the Jatoi clan.

They have been identified as Majid Ulro, Dhani Bux Ulro, Gullan Ulro and Azam Jatoi.

The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of Faiz Muhammad Bandho Police Station in a riverside village.

Local residents reported that gunfire between both sides continued for more than an hour until a large police contingent arrived. Hafiz Ghulam Abbass Ulro told media that his men were sowing wheat on Thursday morning when the Jatois allegedly launched an unprovoked attack.

District SSP Sardar Hassan Niazi said five suspects have been arrested, while the search for others continues. Several police pickets have been established in the area to avoid further clashes.

The suspects reportedly fled the town after locking their houses. The deceased and injured were shifted to a government hospital in Pir Jo Goth, where autopsies were carried out. The police had not registered an FIR for the incident till evening.

In another incident on Thursday, a youth was killed and a child was injured during an armed clash between members of the Ujjan and Kaleri castes in Khuhra area of ​​Khairpur. Mian Imamuddin Ujjan, 20, was killed in the shooting, while six-year-old Majir Ujjan was injured. The Ujjan have accused the Kaleri of the attack.

Ameer Ali Chaang, SHO of Khuhra police station, confirmed that police from several police stations were called to contain the violence. The deceased and injured child were shifted to GIMS hospital. Till evening, the FIR of this incident had also not been registered.
