Arshad Nadeem has achieved a historic milestone for Pakistan by winning the gold medal at the launch of Javelin in the 2025 Asian Athletics Championship on Saturday.

His last 86.40 meter launch assured the upper position on the podium, surpassing Sachin Yadav of India (85.16m) and Yuta Sakiyama of Japan (83.75m).

This victory marks the first gold medal of Pakistan in the Asian Athletics Championship in more than five decades (50 years).

The last time Pakistan won the gold in this event was in 1973 when Allah Dada won at the launch of the javelin and Muhammad Younis triumphed in the 800 meters during the championships held in Marikina, the Philippines.

Nadeem’s achievement adds to its impressive list of achievements, including a gold medal at the Paris Olympic Games of 2024, where it established an Olympic record with a 92.97M launch, becoming the first individual Olympic gold medalist in Pakistan.

His consistent actions have not only brought pride to the nation, but have also raised the status of Pakistan in the field of athletics on the international stage.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also congratulated the athlete while continuing to make the nation proud.
