ISLAMABAD:
The newly empowered Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) has set a date to address the Arshad Sharif murder case, formally beginning proceedings on the request for an independent investigation into the journalist’s murder in Kenya.
According to the FCC’s cause list released Friday, the petition will be heard on December 3.
Notices have been sent to the attorney general, inspector general of Islamabad police, foreign secretary and others.
The hearing will be held before a two-member bench comprising Justices Aamir Farooq and Rozi Khan Barrech. The court will focus on calls for an “independent and transparent investigation into the murder of renowned journalist Arshad Sharif in Kenya”.
The high-profile case, once handled by the Supreme Court under its suo motu jurisdiction, migrated to the FCC after the 27th Constitutional Amendment reshaped the judicial landscape, transferring authority over constitutional and suo motu matters to the newly created court.
