The Airport Security Force (ASF) frustrated on Tuesday an attempt to smuggle RS20 million in local and foreign currency at the Jinnah International Airport.

According to officials, a passenger identified as Irfanul Haq was intercepted while trying to board a flight to Toronto.

ASF staff marked their luggage during routine scan. A manual search discovered $ 70,000 in American currency, 2,200 Canadian dollars and RS160,000 in Pakistani currency.

The authorities indicated that the total amount recovered exceeded RS20 million. Travelers are legally allowed to transport up to $ 10,000 in foreign currency.

The suspect was arrested and delivered to customs along with the recovered money for greater investigation and legal actions.
