President Asif Ali Zardari met with the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, during a brief stop in Istanbul from Turkiye, while heading to Portugal.
The meeting took place at the guest house of the Ataturk airport of the Istanbul airport before the departure of President Erdogan for Malaysia.
Zardari, who was preparing to leave Türkiye, met with the Turkish leader before a scheduled press conference.
According to a statement issued by the President’s Press Wing in Islamabad, the Turkish President, Turkish Foreign Minister, President Hakan Fidan, received a hot welcome upon his arrival. The two leaders exchanged jokes before participating in a productive discussion on several matters of mutual interest.
The approach to his conversation was to strengthen bilateral relations between Pakistan and Turkiye, address issues of common concern and explore ways for greater cooperation, said Express News.
The leaders highlighted the importance of the lasting friendship of their countries and the commitment shared with regional peace and stability.
This diplomatic commitment comes at a time when both nations seek to expand their ties in commerce, defense and cultural exchange.
Meanwhile, President Zardari is visiting Portugal to express condolences after the death of Prince Karim Aga Khan.
