ATC gives the police a 10 -day physical remission of Dr. Mahrang Baloch, other byc activists

An anti -terrorism court (ATC) in Quetta granted the police to the 10 -day police the return of Dr. Mahrang Baloch, the head of the Balochjehti Committee (BYC) and five other members of the group.

The ATC decision is produced as an extension of its ongoing detention, which has already lasted more than three months.

During the hearing on Tuesday, six byc members were presented, including Dr. Mahrang, before Judge Saadat Bazai. The court approved the prosecutor’s request to extend his return, giving investigators more time to interrogate. The other detained activists include Gulzadi, Bebow Baloch, Sibghatullah Shahji, Ghaffar Baloch and drinking Baloch.

The detainees were represented in the Court by lawyer Israr Baloch and defender Shoaib Baloch, who argued against the prolonged detention. However, the judge ruled in favor of the State, citing the need for greater investigation.

The Byc, known for its activism against forced disappearances in Baluchistan since 2018, has been under a growing scrutiny for the agencies of application of the law.

Dr. Mahrang and several of his colleagues were initially arrested in March after a protest tensed near the Quetta Civil Hospital. The authorities have accused them of inciting public disorder and confronting police forces during the demonstration.

Dr. Mahrang is currently in the prison of the Hudda de Quetta district under Section 3 of the Public Order Maintenance Law (MPO), a legal provision that allows preventive detention for people considered a threat to public peace.
