Peshawar:

Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the emir of his namesake Jamiat Ulema-E-Islam (Jui), has said that taking arms against religious scholars is not jihad, but the mentality and narrow terrorism.

“People who killed my teacher and a religious scholar are not very much but murderers. It is not possible to call my teacher a martyr and his murderer to Mujahid,” Fazl said Sunday during his visit to Darul Ulom Haqqania to offer his condolences to the family of Mauula Hamidul Haq.

Maulana Hamidul Haq, the Chief of the Jui-S, was killed last week in a suicidal attack against Ramazan at her seminar in Akora Khattak.

Hamid was the son of the deceased Maulana Samiul Haq, who was considered a founding figure for the Afghan and Pakistani branches of the Taliban. Many Afghan Taliban had studied at the Haq Seminar.

Fazl said some people, under the flag of Jihad, are drawing a path to paradise. “However, raising a weapon against a religious scholar is the close mentality, not jihad.” He said that some extremists even pointed to the mosques and in Baluchistan a religious scholar was recently killed during prayer.

“How can a weapon be used against a Muslim and religious scholar? In Islam, the murder of a person is equivalent to the murder of all humanity. Any use of a weapon against Islam is not jihad, it is terrorism,” he added.

Referring to the attack, Fazl compared extremist ideologies with storm winds that were forced to pass. “These Madaris, Mosques and Ulema will prevail and the enemy will face shame,” he added.

He said that the attack against Maulana Hamidul Haq was an attack against her home, her madrasa and her learning center. Fazl said just when the pain for the martyrdom of Maulana Samiul Haq was still fresh, this atrocious incident had shattered his heart.

“I was in Umrah when I received this tragic news. The shock I experienced cannot be expressed with words. Maulana Hamidul Haq was an innocent religious scholar; his only crime was his association with Darul Ulom Haqqania. Darul’s Ulom walls are mourning.”

Fazl revealed that he had received information that an operation was about to be launched in Darul Uuloom Haqqania.

“When I met with state officials, I asked about this operation, and I told them that if such an intention is pursued, it will cost Caro. I told them that the JUI-F does not participate in arms-based policy, but if any movement is made against Darul Ulom Haqqania, an answer will continue.”

He said that the creed and the methodology of the greats have been entrusted to him, and he would maintain them. Fazl said he wanted to curse the people who were attacking the ulema.
