The airport security force (ASF) frustrated an attempt to smuggle the local and foreign currency worth more than RS20 million to Canada and arrested a passenger at the Karachi airport.
According to the officials, the arrested individual, identified as Irfanul Haq, was scheduled to travel to Toronto when ASF staff intercepted it.
During the routine luggage scan, ASF experts marked the passenger luggage as a suspect.
A posterior manual search of the bag led to the recovery of $ 70,000, 2,200 Canadian dollars and RS160,000. A passenger can only transport up to $ 10,000 in foreign currency while traveling abroad.
The authorities said the seized amount totaled more than RS20 million in local and foreign currency.
The smuggling attempt was frustrated successfully, and the suspect was arrested. He, together with the recovered currency, has been delivered to Customs officials for greater investigation and legal procedures.
