According to reports, Australian players, who participate in the 2025 Edition of Indian Premier League (IPL), are looking for options to return home or move to Dubai after the suspension of the tournament amid the growing security concerns.
The Cricket Control Board in India (BCCI) postpones the IPL 2025 “with immediate effect for a week” following the current situation with Pakistan, according to a statement by BCCI Devajit Saikia Secretary.
The franchises began to dissolve shortly after the announcement, with players and personnel who reserve early exits, AFP reported.
The sources indicate that several contingency plans were discussed, including moving matches to neutral places, before the Board chose to stop the tournament.
Before the suspension, IPL 2025 had completed 58 games, including the abandoned game in Dharamsala.
Meanwhile, Australian media reported that several players are looking for flights outside India, with possible outings as soon as Saturday.
The uncertainty intensified after the abandoned match of Thursday between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala, who left the players distressed and worried about their safety.
A total of 15 Australian players are currently involved in IPL 2025, including Test Captain Pat Cummins and the Star Mitchell Star pacemakers. The former Australian captains Ricky Ponting and Justin Langer are also in India in training papers.
Separately, Cricket Australia and the Australian Cricketers Association were in regular contact with the players, providing support and advice as the situation evolved.
The president of CA, Mike Baird, and the executive director, Todd Greenberg, organized a scheduled meeting of the Board in Melbourne on Friday.
The security and well -being of our players and staff is always a central priority, and we support today’s decision by the BCCI, ”Greenberg said in a statement.
“We continue working closely with the Australian government, PCB and BCCI and maintain regular communication with the players and support staff both in India and Pakistan,” he added.
Although a timeline for the resumption of the tournament has not been established, the BCCI is considering a potential window in August -September.
However, this could interrupt the next tour of India through Bangladesh and the Asia Cup, which now face uncertainty due to ongoing regional tensions and tense diplomatic ties with Bangladesh.
