AVAST has introduced a new scam protection function, promising a real-time defense against the emergence of phishing, online fraud and deception assisted by AI-AI
Avast Scam Guardian, integrated into the company’s free antivirus platform, seeks to address what Avast describes as a “more and more sophisticated threat panorama.”
Avast Scam Guardian is designed to detect scam attempts in several digital channels, including websites, messages and emails, using AI to analyze patterns in the content and interaction of the user, marking suspicious activities in real time.
An answer to the alarming scam trends
A pay version, Scam Guardian Pro, is expected at the end of this year, promising additional protection layers, including defenses against scam calls and text messages.
To use AVAST SCAM Guardian, users simply need to install or update to the latest version of AVAST FREE ANTIVIRUS, where the tool is now integrated.
Once installed, Scam Guardian operates in the background, scanning websites, emails and messages for known fraud patterns and suspicious behaviors using models of the AI trained in real world threats.
The system will alert users in real time if it detects a potential scam. The free version does not require any special configuration and is active by default.
The moment of this launch corresponds to Alarming’s alarming figures Q1/2025 of Avast, which states that they violated personal records increased by 186% only in the first quarter, while phishing scams increased by 466% even more dramatic compared to the anterior quarter.
In the United Kingdom, almost one in three adults has been the target of a scam in 2025 so far, with online shopping scams that represent most of the victims, followed by investment schemes and phishing attacks.
The idea of using AI to fight the scams is not new; Scammers have been using generative tools to write convincing messages and create fraudulent websites.
Avast states that his system is “leveling the field of play” by giving users the ability to counteract these threats with their own AI defenses.
To evaluate general protection, consumers may still need to compare products with the best antivirus software and ransomware protection.
In addition, since many scams try to steal financial and credential information, identity theft protection services remain crucial in addition to any antivirus program.
