Avoid traveling to mountainous areas: ndma

Amid the highest risks of landslides and sudden floods during the monsoon season, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued public advice, urging citizens to avoid traveling to mountainous regions and affected by disasters.

Following the directives of the Prime Minister, NDMA has instructed the relevant authorities to take immediate measures to restrict tourist activities in vulnerable areas. The agencies of application of the law in tourist areas have been directed to guarantee the strict implementation of the new restrictions.

According to NDMA, the public movement in high -risk areas must be reduced during active monzón spells to safeguard lives and support emergency response efforts.

The notice also indicates that section 144 can be enforced, if necessary, to impose tourist curbs and maintain public safety. Citizens have been urged to remain attentive, avoid non -essential trips and stay informed through verified official channels.

The severe climate in Gilgit-Baltistan and the adjacent northern regions have caused an extensive interruption for infrastructure transport, which caused urgent travel notices.

The National Emergency Operation Center (NEOC) of the NDMA has advised the public to avoid travel to the areas of the North, citing generalized road closures, landslides and flood damage.

Several key routes have been cut, with the Somro Bridge in Ghanche, along with the Pratoro and Baghicha bridges in Skardu, suffering serious damage and become useless.

The Jaglot -Skardu road remains closed, while the routes in Dayan, Thali Baroq and Kalti in Ghizer are completely blocked. Access to Gilgit, Jaglot, Guru and Naltar has also been cut. Meanwhile, the Gilgit -Hunza corridor, including Gulmit and Gojal, along with the top route of Babusar, is completely closed.

The NDMA has warned about the persistent risks of floods and landslides in Torghar, Battagram, Shangla, Bajo Kohistan, Tata Pani, Gilgit, Hunza and Swat. Tourists and travelers have been advised to differ non -essential trips and prioritize security until conditions improve.
