- AWS launches a European business to supervise its European sovereign cloud
- Directed by Kathrin Renz from Germany, only European workers will have access to it
- His first region in Brandenburg, Germany, will be launched at the end of 2025
Amazon Web Service (AWS) has announced that it will establish a new European organization designed to supervise its European efforts of the sovereign cloud in an attempt to attract European clients who seek to break ties with the United States.
Separated companies, incorporated in Germany, will be “legally forced to act in the best interest of the European Sovereign Cloud of AWS”, with AWS Industries, Kathrin Renz vice president, confirmed as its first managing director: a German citizen.
Its advisory board will also include at least one independent member not affiliated with Amazon, even more strengthening its commitment to European regulations and desires.
AWS European Savereign Cloud
The most important thing for European clients, the sovereign option will not have critical units of the infrastructure that is not of the EU, which supports talent, technology and local networks.
In addition, only EU resident AWS employees will have operational control over data centers and technical support.
“The design of the AWS European sovereign cloud allows you to continue operations indefinitely, even in case of an interruption between the European Sovereign Cloud of AWS and the rest of the world,” the company confirmed.
The network will consist of multiple availability areas with independent power, networks, facilities and security capacities.
“Customers tell us that they do not want to choose between limited solutions or the entire AWS power, so we have designed AWS’s European sovereign cloud to address European digital sovereignty requirements while we maintain the portfolio of services, security, reliability and performance that customers expect from AWS,” Renz said.
By further reflecting its commitment to sovereignty, AWS is establishing its framework of sovereign requirements to describe the technical, legal and operational controls developed from the expectations of the client, the requirements of the regulatory body and the orientation of the framework of the pre -existing industry.
Supported by € 7.8 billion of investments, the first European region of the AWS sovereign cloud will be launched in Brandenburg, Germany, at the end of 2025.
