In bad monkeyVince Vaughn starts out as Andrew Yancy, a former Miami police officer turned Florida health inspector. Well, until a human arm appears. Yancy then returns to a wild world of crime, unusual characters, and a touch of magical ambiguity.
Here’s everything we know so far about bad monkey season 2 from release date prediction, confirmed cast, plot rumors and more.

Bad Monkey Season 2 Release Date
bad monkey Season 2 may not have a release date yet, but it is officially in production, bringing us one step closer. After Apple TV announced the show’s renewal in December 2024, it took just under a year to begin filming.
And while Florida is at the heart of this show, production reportedly moved to California for season 2, with a $20.6 million state tax incentive, Variety revealed.
If I had to predict a release date then, I would say that hopefully we will see bad monkey We will return to our screens in late 2026, early 2027. After all, the Keys are calling.
Is there a trailer for Bad Monkey season 2 yet?
Given that the cast and crew began filming in November, it’s no surprise that there was no bad monkey Season 2 trailer to share yet. As is usually the case, trailers are released about a month before the show premieres. Therefore, it is unlikely that we will have a breakthrough anytime soon.
Bad Monkey Season 2 Confirmed Cast

It seems that most of the bad monkey The season 2 cast is confirmed to reprise their roles, as well as many new cast announcements:

In August, John Malkovich joined the cast as a Season 2 series regular, with Deadline reporting that he will play Spencer, “the head of a major South Florida criminal organization.”
Then in September, Yvonne Strahovski signed on to play the role of the county’s state’s attorney (per Deadline) and Zavior Phillips as Eddie: “a certified public accountant who investigates financial crimes” (per Variety).
In October, Deadline reported that Sam Jaeger would star in a recurring role, quickly followed by the news that Nate Jackson would also be joining (per Deadline).
And finally, in November, Brent Morin, Peter Billingsley, and June Diane Raphael were cast (according to Deadline). But, unlike the other three, the details of these last five characters have been kept under wraps.
When it comes to the rest of the Season 1 cast, whose fate has yet to be announced for Season 2, Lawrence revealed to Deadline, “Anyone who’s still alive, who people have responded to, we’re going to figure out a way for them to exist in our world, or at least through them.”
Which is great news for anyone wondering if Bonnie (Michelle Monaghan), Yancy’s father (Scott Glenn), or narrator Tom Nowicki will return. There is no confirmed news about their roles yet, but there is hope.
Bad Monkey season 2 possible plot synopsis and rumors
Major spoilers follow bad monkey season 1.
He bad monkey The season 1 finale was pretty intense, to say the least. Not one, not two, but three characters met their end and closed Yancy’s case with an elegant Floridian bow.
Gracie, also known as the Dragon Queen, was killed by Eve, who also pushed her wheelchair-bound husband, Nick, into the ocean to drown. But, in a twist of karmic fate, Eve met her own death by choking on a baby carrot and falling from a building to her death.
But that certainly wasn’t the end of Yancy’s antics solving murders in Florida, as Rogelio approached him in the final scenes to take on a brand new case and told him he had something “that wasn’t strictly police business” and he wanted him to take a look at it.
So where does that leave us? bad monkey season 2? Well, although Season 1 was based on Carl Hiaasen’s novel of the same name, Deadline confirmed that Season 2 will “tell a new original story.” Although Lawrence has expressed that he chose bad monkey because he was the only one for whom Hiaasen wrote a sequel, called shaving girl.
But there have been clues. Speaking to Deadline, he said: “And if you look at the opening credits, the sand thing (no one’s seen it yet), there’s a couple of things, like a beach ball, and if people pause it when they walk past a beach chair, there’s a copy of that book, like a summer read in there. That’ll tell people what’s next.”
It’s worth taking a look at shaving girl The synopsis then reads: “Merry Mansfield, the eponymous Razor Girl, specializes in kidnappings for the mafia. Her preferred method is to rear-end her targets and ask them for a ride. Her latest target is Martin Trebeaux, owner of a private beach renourishment company who has delivered poor quality sand to a mafia hotel.
“But there’s just one problem: Razor Girl hits the wrong guy. Instead, she ends up with Lane Coolman, talent manager for Buck Nance, the star of a reality show about a family of Cajun rooster farmers. Buck Nance, left to perform at a Key West bar without his handler, makes enough off-color jokes to incite a fight, then flees for his life and disappears.”
We know there are plenty of new characters joining the season 2 cast, but none with these names (yet). So, we’ll have to wait and see how closely related the source material is to the new season.
Among the new cast, there are also returning characters from season 1, of course, like Rosa, who broke up with Yancy in the finale and quit her job, which felt very… final. But it’s been confirmed that she will return, so we’ll have to see where the story arc takes her next.
And then there’s Caitlin, Nick’s daughter from season 1, who is actually showrunner Bill Lawrence’s real-life daughter. Now that Nick sleeps with the fish, it creates a whole new place for Caitlin. However, no one knows how these characters will appear again in season 2.
Will Bad Monkey have more seasons on Apple TV?
There is no official news of bad monkey season 3, and I imagine there won’t be one for some time. While the Season 1 renewal may have been delayed by the show’s relocation, it at least came after the show’s premiere on Apple TV. So for a possible season 3, we at least need a season 2.
But it seems that Lawrence is eager to move on. After all, when Lawrence pitched it to Apple TV, he told The Hollywood Reporter, “I had a beginning, middle and end of a three-season arc for this character, and who it would be for and where it would go, and they were really receptive to that.”
Does a three-season arc need a third Hiaasen book, though? Speaking to Deadline, he said it depends on whether Hiaasen writes another novel: “There’s no third book written, but the joke for me is pushing Carl to write one or taking one of the previous ones and making Yancy the protagonist.
“It’s a lot easier when you use incredible source material and the guy is really good, he’s a classic American satirist and also a good guy.”
