The audio director of the Ripple Effect studio, Jeff Wilson, has spoken about the creation of the Battlefield 6 soundtrack, which he said aimed to capture the “brave, authentic, modern soldier experience.”
In a new interview with TechRadar Gaming, the veteran first-person shooter (FPS) developer talked about working on the three “big experiences” that underpin the game: the premium campaign and multiplayer offering, plus Redsec’s free Battle Royale mode.
“The campaign has the most music because it is thematic, it is where we tell the stories of our characters,” he said. “When we move into multiplayer, we have to tone down the music a bit to reinforce the most important moments.”

Still, the team was careful to capture “the world stage” and add some “musical flavor” to the beginning of each match. The music on the loading screen helps “set the tone of the location, taking you back to some of the story arcs and single-player mode,” with subtle motifs and themes that “tie in” to some of the campaign’s most memorable moments.
The music is reduced even further in RedsecAs Wilson says, the team wants to “keep the soundscape open for sound effects and voiceovers that are very important.”
“You want to be able to hear the enemy running behind you, right?” he adds, but stresses the importance of “little musical stings” at key moments.
Although distinct, all of the game’s music is unified in that it aims to convey the fantasy of a “brave, authentic, and modern soldier experience.”
“That was the initial creative direction set by Thomas Anderson, who is the creative director of Battlefield. Accepting that was key to everything.”
“It’s different in every game. Battlefield 1 It was nostalgic, right? This game is not. We had to find what our version of heroism is; “We’re talking about something grounded and authentic.”
Battlefield 6 It is now available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, and PC.
