According to reports, some Sony televisions have begun to receive Android TV 14 in a recent software update, almost a year after its launch in mid -2024.
Initially released on Google Streamer devices and onn transmitters, it seems that we are watching an important deployment of Android TV 14 in a large number of Sony televisions.
According to Android Authority, the models included are not what I would expect, since a large majority are the LED TVs of entry to medium range. The launch was first seen by the Reddit Proshis_Sa_Swoopna user, whose TV himself was updated from Android TV 11 to 14.
Some of the models included are Sony X77L, Sony Bravia 2, Sony X75L, X74L, X75K, X74K, X70L, X64L and more, some of which date back to 2022.
Interestingly, the sets that list in the update are those with realtek and non -mediatek chips sets, the last of which is included in Sony more premium TVs such as the Sony A95L and Sony X90L, two of the best televisions in recent years.
It is not yet clear what updates will receive these Sony TVs of Android TV 14, but some of its characteristics include a mode of low energy and optimized energy, an image function and an update of performance on devices with low RAM.
One thing worth pointing out is that, although the main operating system updates may not be arriving for some televisions, there are still regular errors and safety updates for Google TV devices. My own Philips Oled and Sony LED TV received updates this year.

When will the complete deployment take place?
It has been a long time, but it is finally good to see some progress with Android TV 14. In almost a year since its launch, it has only reached the specific streamers of Google and Onn, while some televisions with the Google TV platform are still trapped in Android 10, 11 and 12.
Earlier this year, Android announced Android TV 16, but there are no clear plans for a deployment or even a release date, although he believes it will not be until 2026, since Android has apparently moved to a biannual update cycle. It seems that time will pass, since the deployment for 14 has only begun.
While it is great that the deployment has begun for Sony, it seems strange that it is only in specific models with the Realtek chipset. That is great news for those owners of LED televisions, but not so good news for those who have more Sony Premium televisions.
