News flash! Smart telephone designs are becoming more homogeneous with every year. In 2021, the three greatest flagship phones, namely the iPhone 13 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and Google Pixel 6 Pro, were recognizably different from each other, but in 2025, their respective successors look more similar than their manufacturers They would like to admit admit.
Of course, the iPhone 16 Pro Max, Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra and Google Pixel 9 Pro are far from the identical devices: their camera arrangements, for one, are still relatively different, but share several common (I dare to say Apple) design that have left the category of flagship phones feeling a bit … the same.
The sides of flat metal, the gently rounded corners and the clean and industrial colors are the new standard for today’s flagship intelligent phones, with apparently prioritized discreet practicality and style on “Look at my new phone!” personality. Of course, it can still stand out among the crowd with one of the best folding phones or the best Android phones in China, but in the United States, especially, it seems that their options to enjoy a little self -expression through their smartphone choice They have been reduced to practically null.
But is this so bad? Call me a robot, but personally, I am all for the constant slide towards a unique and optimal telephone design (and I will explain why in a follow -up article). But and you? As more flagship phones reach the shelves in 2025, we want to evaluate their opinions on the sticky theme of smartphone design.
So, do you think we have reached the design of peak smartphones? Or could manufacturers do more to differentiate their highest -end devices from each other? Are modern flagships too boring? Or are you a fan of your shared industrial aesthetics?
See the response options numbered below and Extend your vote in the comments section of this article. I will be running the same survey on the Techradar WhatsApp channel, so vote there if you prefer! -And you will publish a monitoring piece with the results in the next few days.
- 1) Smartphone designs are better than ever; Homogeneity is natural
- 2) Modern smartphone designs are boring, I miss the variety!
- 3) Modern smartphone designs are boring, but I understand the need for conformity
- 4) There is still enough variety in the smartphone industry.
Needless to say, but obviously there are more nuanced positions on this topic that does not easily be summarized in voting format. For example, you may like the modern design approach, but think there is still room for greater innovation. Alternatively, it can be nostalgic for strange smartphones of yesteryear (we do not all?), But recognize that these devices attended to a different market.
The four previous options are destined to cover four broad feelings (‘happy’, ‘not happy’, ‘not happy but I understand why’ and ‘disagree’), which will fortunately give us an idea of how consumers feel on the design status of intelligent phones flags in 2025.
