Benedict Cumberbatch plays Doctor Strange in the Marvel Universe and remembers his reaction to a surprise the studios gave him last year.
During last year’s Comic-Con panel, his co-star Robert Downey Jr. came out as Victor von Doom.
In an interview with VarietyThe British actor revealed that he didn’t know about this before, texting studio boss Kevin Feige: “‘What the hell?’ And then quickly added, “Well, what the fuck?” I mean, well, what the fuck?”
Elsewhere in the interview, he reflected on his approach to adopting the mystical processor and shared what he learned from Robert Downey Jr. and Tom Holland in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
“I learned a lot from seeing how comfortable and improvisational they are,” the Academy-nominated actor said. “It’s difficult because you have this huge device around you, but it’s very important.”
He also shared that he bonded with Robert over their shared history of playing different versions of Sherlock Holmes.
“We had a lot of fun being the two Sherlocks on set,” he said. “But there was one line of dialogue where someone turns to us and says, ‘No shit, Sherlock.'”
“Well, we cut out all that meta stuff. We just said, ‘No, no, no. That’s better left for fan fiction,'” he concluded.
