- Best Buy Marketplace sells DVD and Blu-ray discs
- Online only through third -party vendors
- Available in the application and online today
We have been saying for a long time that the reports of the death of the films discs are premature, and it seems that Best Buy agrees with us: it is launching a new online market that will sell DVD, Blu-Rays and UHD Steelbooks as part of a duplication of its online offer.
If you are thinking: “Wait, did you not stop selling films based on records in early 2024?” You are right: they did it. Citing the way we enjoy entertainment, Best Buy announced at the end of 2023 that he would stop selling DVD and Blu-rays in his stores and online after the holiday season, although he continued selling the best 4K Blu-ray players later.
So what is happening? As Flatpanelshd reports, this is not a reversal: you will not see that the DVD or Blu-ray halls return to your local store. The new market is online and has third-party vendors, and those vendors will be those offered by DVD, Blu-Rays and Steelbooks.
Why the death of the album is not inevitable
To worry about Blu-ray movies is not just nostalgia. Some films are simply not available to transmit, and those that are not transmitted in the same quality that will obtain the best Blu-ray editions. This is because the transmission uses compressed media formats, and that inevitably implies loss, something particularly evident with movie soundtracks.
There is also the continuous concern of the transmission that what is available today will not be available tomorrow, since licensing offers expires or bean counters decide to reduce the catalog. And, of course, different films are in different streamers, and with the prices of constant transmission services, Apple TV+ increased their prices last week, cutting their transmission subscriptions means losing access to many films and programs.
I am not being naive: the days of the media based on discs are the favorite domestic entertainment option of the world they have ended. But for serious film fans, and people with serious home film configurations, it is still a superior experience. Ask Christopher Nolan.
