- The main software update presents a series of new features
- Driving functions without hand with second generation R1S and R1T models
- Performance clients also treated a rally mode
Rivian has announced an important software update that will present what he calls “hands -free” to certain models as of today.
Nicknamed “Improved Road Assistance”, the system allows drivers to get their hands out of the wheel during “extended periods of time” on selected roads in the United States.
With the rival of the basic packages of Ford and Tesla pilots, it eliminates the tension of monotonous driving tasks on the road, provided that those in the driving seat can take care as soon as the system considers it necessary.
Unfortunately, any R1 model created before 2024 does not present the hardware required to admit the new technology, so the update will only appear for those with new vehicles.
According to Evs, the CEO of Rivian, RJ Scaringe, states that the autonomous “nights” driving will be available on roads next year.
That said, he pointed out that additional lidar sensors would be required for the system to work in urban areas, beyond simple road driving.
Start the rally mode
Any person with a double engine R1 that also presents the optional performance package will now also benefit in a “rally” mode, which is said to offer “a higher accelerator response and the most clear address in almost any terrain, including ice, mud, earth or asphalt.”
Ford offered a similar low mode in his Ranger Raptor truck, which essentially turned him into a Dune and Dirtfing Dirting delight. Although Rivian does not mention whether the traction control is affected or not in the new mode.
Double motor owners can now also be separated with $ 5,000 (around £ 3,900 / AU $ 8,000) to unlock the performance package, which sees the performance of standard+, large or max R1 models, the performance of the 665 HP models from the standard car of the car.
While some of the updated features are reserved for the most recent or most powerful trucks, Rivian has also improved the property experience for all others.
The wheel size can now be configured within the vehicle menus, which makes the most precise range estimates, while the mirrors are automatically leaning when the reverse is selected to avoid the eruption.
There is also an improved tire pressure monitoring system and a practical bell that notifies distracted drivers when the vehicle is moving away from a traffic light or a traffic jam.
