India has suspended the X (previously Twitter) accounts of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and the president of the Popular Party of Pakistan (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, amid increasing tensions after a deadly attack in Jammu and Kashmir (Iiojk) occupied by the Indians.
The movement occurs following the April 22 attack in Pahalgam, where 26 tourists were killed. Nueva Delhi blames Pakistan for the attack, an accusation that Islamabad denies.
The suspension of high profile accounts adds to a broader pattern of digital restrictions and reciprocal diplomatic actions between the two rivals with nuclear weapons.
India has already blocked several Pakistani social media accounts and media platforms in recent days.
Bilawal Bhutto, who served as Pakistan Foreign Minister until at the beginning of this year, recently addressed his country with terrorism during an interview with Sky News. “It is not a secret that Pakistan has a past,” he said, referring to internal reforms aimed at curbing extremism. “We have suffered … but we have learned our lessons.”
