Karachi:

The president of the Popular Party of Pakistan (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, inaugurated the new hub channel on Wednesday, emphasizing that the water has been a long -standing problem for the people of Karachi and must be addressed as a priority.

He stressed the importance of water for Karachi, added that the renewal of the old Hub channel, together with the construction of the new channel, would significantly improve the city’s water supply.

Bilawal expressed a strong dissatisfaction with the persistent delay of the federal government to complete the Mega K-IV water project, which is crucial for the growing water needs of Karachi, according to an official statement.

The K-IV project, part of an ongoing initiative of the Sindh government and the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), aims to address the shortage of long-standing water in the city. Once completed, it is expected to supply 100 million gallons of additional water per day to Karachi.

Speaking at the inauguration, Bilawal commented: “It is unacceptable to operate with ‘Shehbaz Speed’ for LaHore and change to ‘Slow Shybaz’ for Karachi.” He criticized the lack of progress in the K-IV project and the failure of the federal government to provide funds for the development of Karachi.

He added that he would raise the issue of delayed funds with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and urged him to guarantee the earliest possible completion of the K-IV project. “I hoped that the prime minister would support Karachi’s development with the same ‘Shehbaz speed’ as he has constantly shown for Lahore,” he said.

Speaking about the development of Karachi, Bilawal emphasized the importance of cooperation between the government of Sindh and local organizations. He expressed the hope that, in future elections, people would reject politicians who disseminate hatred and instead support those who work for people’s well -being.

He also condemned India’s actions with respect to the Treaty of the Water of the Indo, calling the attempts of the Modi government to block the participation of Pakistan’s water.

“India has been financing terrorist organizations and intends to block Pakistan’s water under the Treaty of Indo’s waters,” he said. He described the movement as a “historical attack on the Sindhu (Indo) river” and promised to face India both diplomatically and, if necessary, on the battlefield.

The president of the PPP reiterated Pakistan’s position, stating that the country would not allow India to break the treaty. “If they force him, we will take the six rivers of India and deliver them to the people of Pakistan,” he added.

The ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister of Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, the mayor of Karachi, the lawyer Murtaza Wahab, provincial ministers, the offices of the PPP offices and other prominent citizens of the city.

He also paid tribute to PPP workers, particularly Karachi and Hyderabad, for their unwavering support to resist policy based on hate and encourage unity.

“For the first time in history, PPP mayors have been chosen in both Karachi and Hyderabad,” he said, recognizing the sacrifices made by party workers in these cities.

Bilawal concluded stressing the need for continuous progress in Karachi and ensuring that development reaches all areas, including Lyari. “The work is also underway in a seawater desalination project under a public-private partnership model,” he added.
