The president of the Popular Party of Pakistan (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, has issued a strong warning to the federal government, stating that the controversial channel projects could endanger the unity of the Federation.
He demanded that the federal authorities withdraw the proposed channel initiatives or run the risk of losing the support of PPP in the ruling coalition, said Express News.
Speaking in a public demonstration in Hyderabad on Friday, Bilawal congratulated his party for his recent electoral victory in Uumerkot and praised the people of Sindh for continuing with the legacy of the late Benazir Bhutto.
“The people of Sindh have demonstrated once again that the arrow is their only mandate,” he said, referring to the PPP electoral symbol.
He criticized Islamabad’s leadership, stating: “The people of Sindh have rejected channel projects, however, those in Islamabad remain blind and deaf to our voices. Of six channels, two were approved by prisoner No. 420”, a veiled reference to a political rival. “Let it be clear, we oppose your project,” he said.
Bilawal emphasized that the water distribution problem could threaten national cohesion. “We did the prime minister of Shehbaz Sharif once, but twice. And now you think you can intimidate us with threats?” He questioned.
Attacking in the Pakistan-Nawaz Muslim League (PML-N), he said that his projects constantly damage the agricultural sector. “Each initiative backed by the ‘Lion Party’ is anti-agricultural. The wheat scandal has economically devastated our farmers,” he said. “They only bleed from dried people without offering any real solution.”
Reaffirming the position of his party, he declared: “The Government should not be under any illusion, I will not take a step back. I am with the people.” In a final warning, Bilawal declared that the PPP will not continue to be part of the coalition if the federal government does not withdraw the controversial channel projects.
