The debut as a Bill Belichick coach in university football began with a roaring start, but collapsed when TCU uploaded the score in his UNC Tar Heels, 48-14, on Monday night.

“It was a great atmosphere for the game here tonight. Fans had great energy,” Belichick said in his opening comments. “We play competitively, and then we simply could not sustain it. So, we obviously have a lot of work to do. We need to do a better job in all time: training, playing, the three phases of the game. It simply was not up to what needs to be, and we are much better than that. We need to work on those things and show that on Saturday in a brief answer.
“Give Credit to TCU, they entered and did a good job. They were clearly the best team tonight. They deserved to win, and they did decisively.”
