- Okta hits workers for using poor passwords like ‘123456’
- Biometric authentication is popular in Israel and South Korea
- Half of Germany’s businesses enforce biometric authentication
The OKTA Business In Workta 2025 report has discovered the growing adoption of authentication without password, with many European countries that lead the way when it comes to greater security.
“For the consecutive year, 123456 is the most popular password in the world,” wrote the company jovially while sought to understand changes in business security.
With traditional passwords that remain some of the weakest links worldwide, OKTA explored how companies are changing to authentication methods resistant to stronger phishing, which are increasingly implemented with biometric barriers.
The session without password are becoming more common
Specifically, OKTA discovered how France leads the way when it comes to the total number of Fastpass authentications: the self -resistant authenticator solution without the company’s password. It was discovered that Israel, Germany, South Korea and Canada were using authentication without password without improved password with biometric 21% of the time, with the United Kingdom and Australia in a second second with 20%.
The change is being directed largely by organizations, with almost half (49%) of German respondents stating that their company enforces biometric authentication for greater security.
On the other hand, Okta declared that the United States paths “most [its] Outstanding nations ”in the report, with only 17% taking advantage of biometry. Interestingly, Fastpass leader, France, actually had the least amount of biometric session as a percentage, only 12%.
In the one -year space, OKTA FastPass authentications have increased 377%, with biometric authentications that are in 288%still considerable. Macos is the most used platform for biometry, which represents 18% of all FastPass authentications, with windows in only 13%. Apple’s domain is invested when it comes to mobile devices, with 14% using biometry in iOS compared to 21% of Android users.
Although the safer authentication methods prevail, OKTA observed an increase of 23% year after year on authentication based on email. Fortunately, this is below the 155% increase seen last year: “We will call it a victory,” said the company in the report.
Looking towards the future, it is clear that companies are rising with biometric authentication for a safer and more convenient future, but the compatibility problems of the device, limited IT resources and budgets will continue to present obstacles along the way.
