Supermasive Games has explained why his next horror game, 8020 Directivewill allow players to rewind their decisions and why he decided to offer The anthology of dark imagesThe classic way of playing as an option.
In an interview with Techradar Gaming at Gamescom 2025, creative director Will Doyle spoke more about 8020 DirectiveThe recently added inflection point function, a mechanic that will offer players the opportunity to rewind past decisions.
Doyle said the team is aware that, in past games like Until dawnPlayers think they must continue with their decisions, then they will regret them and prefer to leave the game than start again.
“Many players think validly, but they think very passionately, that our games should be like ‘you must live with your decisions,” said Doyle. “That is what these do, our games. So you have to go that way. But we know very, very well that many players are not like that, that many players are invested in a character, and then get three or four hours in the game, and that character dies, and they go out.
“Then, for all those players, we are saying: ‘No, you can undo, you can rewind.”
However, Supermasive has also made sure to add a traditional survival mode for all experienced players who do not mind living with their terrible elections.
“At the same time, for the other group players, we are saying, if you want, if you want to live and die for your choices, we will play in survival mode.
“We put the way for you that you cannot rewind. Simply eliminates what moves the ability to and get an achievement to complete the game in that way. And then, in the end that way, when you reach the end of the story, you can turn it on …”
The developer then mentioned how 8020 Directive In the further away from their predecessors with the elimination of timed options, explaining that their elimination will allow players more time to think about great decisions, especially if they are playing with friends.
“In the previous games, because we had this mode of multiplayer and shared history, we did not want me to wait too long, because we wanted to keep the two parts synchronized. Actually, we found that taking time, as for most of the options, it is better for the game of the room for you. Just give me more time to think about it,” Doyle said.
“And when you are playing, many people play our games, either in what we used to call on the night of movies, where it is a kind of counter -access game, or simply with a person who plays in a room, the partners sitting looking. And really, it really helps to discuss those great moments …”
8020 Directive is the fifth entry into the Dark photos Series and arrives in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PC.
