The authorities recovered on Sunday four bodies more than a fishing boat that overturned near Gwadar, which brought the death toll from death to five. The boat, which transported six karachi fishermen, sank due to strong winds and waves in the Arabic sea earlier this week.

The deceased include Ayub, resident of Ibrahim Hyderi, whose body was recovered a day before and rested on Sunday. His son Zeeshan is expected to also among the victims, be taken to Karachi from Gwadar on Monday night. The remaining three victims, identified as residents of the Machar neighborhood, were also transported to the city for the burial.

A fisherman miraculously survived the incident.

The media coordinator of the Fisherfolk forum of Pakistan (PFF), Kamal Shah, confirmed that six fishermen were on board at the time of the accident. “Five have died while one survived,” he said.

The president of PFF, Mehran Ali Shah, who spoke with the media at Ayub’s funeral, said the fishing community faces daily risks at sea to provide their families. “When they can’t fish, they stay hungry and poverty,” he added.

He demanded that the Sindh government establish rescue centers along the coast and provide rapid boats to guarantee timely answers during maritime emergencies. Shah also urged the Cooperative Fishermen Society and the relevant authorities to offer immediate financial aid to the families of the victims.

“Sindh fishermen contribute to more than RS24 billion in taxes annually. It is time for the government to invest in their safety,” he said.
