The pills, which were later identified as hydrocodone, a prescription opioid for pain relief, were originally found in Woods’ pocket. Woods previously told police before field sobriety tests that he underwent seven back surgeries and “more than 20 surgeries on his leg.” He told authorities he “takes some” prescription medications.
In 2021, he suffered an accident that caused serious leg injuries that kept him off the golf course throughout the year.
An agent is shown with his finger in the air as Woods, while hiccuping, tries to follow him with his eyes. Woods was sitting on the bumper of a vehicle while taking the exam.
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by Pak Gazette Digital, deputies with the Martin County Sheriff’s Office reported observing several signs of deterioration at the scene, noting that the golf legend was “sweating profusely” and that his movements appeared “lethargic and slow.” Law enforcement They proceeded to perform field sobriety tests due to their suspicions. Woods was instructed to remove his glasses and the officer conducting the tests stated that his eyes appeared to be “bloodshot and glassy” and “extremely dilated.”
In one video, Woods, kneeling, told an officer he was looking at “my phone and all of a sudden, boom.”
The officer then appeared to caress Woods’ back before telling Woods that a doctor would “look him over.” The officer said he “didn’t feel anything” on Woods’ back. The officer then spoke to a bystander who said Woods “hit the trailer.” The officer then spoke to the driver who was hit, who told him he was fine.
“I was getting ready to turn,” the other driver said. “And he was coming fast. I don’t think he was looking, that’s the thing.”
The driver said Woods hit the trailer that was attached to the back of his vehicle. The officer then ordered the cars on the road to turn around as they were ready to close the road.

Friday’s arrest marked Woods’ second DUI arrest in the last decade. In 2017, he was arrested, also on Jupiter Island, after taking prescribed medication and falling asleep behind the wheel of a moving car at 3 in the morning.
Woods, who could have been competing for his sixth green jacket next week, announced Tuesday that he would not be returning to the golf course for the time being and would instead “seek treatment” after the accident.
“I know and understand the severity of the situation I find myself in today. I will be stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary so I can prioritize my well-being and work toward a lasting recovery,” Woods said in a statement posted Tuesday on social media. “I am committed to taking the time necessary to return to a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally. I appreciate your understanding and support, and I ask for privacy for my family, loved ones, and myself at this time.”
Woods pleaded not guilty to DUI. He was also charged with property damage and refusal to submit to a test.

The accident came just days after Woods returned to some aspect of competitive golf after rupturing his Achilles tendon last year while playing in the TGL final on Monday. The accident occurred 13 days before the Masters, which Woods will now officially miss. It was not yet known if he would play before the crash.
