The Token Bitcoin BRC20 protocol has taken a step towards the authorization of Ethereum -style intelligent contracts.
Bitcoin’s Token protocol has integrated the Ethereum virtual machine (EVM) In its central logic from the Bitcoin 912,690 block, according to a Coindenesk announcement on Monday.
BRC20 is a Token standard to broad (The smallest denomination of BTC, equivalent to one hundred million of a bitcoin).
EVM is the Ethereum operating system that allows the execution of intelligent contracts, which makes tokens programmable and eliminate the need for centralized governance.
The update, called BRC2.0, was executed by ordinal developer Best in Slot together with the pseudonym creator of BRC20 Domo.
“Bitcoin metectocol such as ordinary ones, the runes and the BRC20 are executed in Indexators, which function as simple calculators. We update this ‘calculating style’ indexer with EVM, making BRC20 Turing complete,” said the best CEO of Slot Bini Ezerel in the announcement.
The advent of the ordinal protocol in early 2023 provided a large part of the impetus for subsequent developments of greater utility in Bitcoin, such as allowing intelligent contract capabilities similar to those inherent to Ethereum and other networks.
“The Holy Grail is combining the two gold standards: Bitcoin as the most decentralized and safe network, and the EVM as the most proven virtual machine,” said Domo. “The objective is to provide users with the Ethereum experience of compositionability and programming, but assured by Bitcoin.”
