The 2018 Boston Red Sox are considered one of the greatest teams of all time, but it didn’t come without a concerted effort to keep the chemistry high and the players seemingly safe.
Brock Holt, a member of that team, hopped on the Red Sox’s “Section 10” podcast to talk about Rafael Devers’ departure from Boston, which turned into a conversation about clubhouse chemistry.
Holt said the 2018 team “had one or two guys” who caused problems in the clubhouse and were immediately released.

One of them, whose name has not yet been officially identified, allegedly threatened to shoot and kill the team members.
“We were in Tampa and we were in a circle stretching before [batting practice]”And have a good time,” Holt began. “And this someone looks at all of us and says, ‘You know what? Tomorrow I’m going to bring a gun to the field and I’m going to kill them all.
“And then he looks right at me and says, ‘And you’ll be the first.'”
Holt said he told the player that “[knew] “You’re probably joking, but you can’t say that.”

The Red Sox won 108 games and defeated the New York Yankees and the reigning champion Houston Astros before defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers in the Fall Classic.
However, that team has been embroiled in a minor controversy, as it was discovered that the team at times “used game feeds in the replay room” to decode signal sequences while a runner was on second base. The sign stealing was not known to manager Alex Cora, the Red Sox coaching staff, the Red Sox front office or “most of the players.”

The Red Sox and Cora mutually parted ways for a season due to his involvement in the Astros’ sign-stealing scandal the previous year, when he was bench coach, but brought him back after a year.
