“Not good news, on the penultimate play of overtime, Bo broke a bone in his right ankle. He is scheduled to have surgery on Tuesday of this week, which will keep him out for the rest of the season,” Payton said.
If the second-to-last play of the game is indeed what Payton was referring to, then it would be the play where the Broncos simply took a knee before kicking the game-winning field goal. On the previous play, Nix threw an incomplete pass that resulted in a 30-yard pass interference call to Buffalo, putting the Broncos in field goal range.

Nix was 26 of 46 for 279 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for 29 yards on 12 carries in the win.
Payton said Broncos backup Jarrett Stidham will start at quarterback for Denver in next week’s AFC Championship game at Mile High Stadium against the winner of Sunday’s divisional showdown between the Patriots and Texans.
