Farmingdale, NY – Bryson Dechambeau is in Bethpage Black with revenge.
When Dechambeau made the controversial movement of the PGA Tour to Liv Golf, he knew what he enrolled for, understanding that it would be much more difficult to play in the Ryder Cup.

“Yes, he stink. He wanted to be there. He didn’t play well enough in the elderly,” Dechambeau told journalists on Thursday. “I knew what I faced when I went to Liv. That is a completely different conversation. But I still wanted to make the team and could not do it.”
After an overwhelming loss without him in Rome two years ago, Dechambeau had eight opportunities for Bethpage (four major in 2024 and 2025) to make this year’s team. In those tournaments, he won the Open of US 2024, finished second in both PGA championships and had another 10 best.
That was enough not only to take it to the equipment but to automatically qualify.
“Seeing the boys really losing fire in my stomach and wanted to make the team this time. Now we are here, and we are probably starting, if not the most exciting golf event in golf,” Dechambeau said.
It is a relief for Dechambeau, which was not eligible for last year’s Olympic Games and could not compete in 2021 after being Covid.

“That was a quite big shot for the heart. Playing in team events all my life, playing in the Walker Cup, World Amateur, many other team events, that’s all I wanted to make growing,” he said.
But since Rome was lost, Bethpage has had around his calendar.
“Being in the Ryder Cup for a winning team and a losing team, experiencing both ups and downs and the lack of Rome, this has put something in my stomach that has made me a mission project for me,” said a stoic Dechambeau. “I want to be part of this team and be the most useful person for this team in any way possible.
“The words are not really there at this time to explain how passionate that I am for this US team. And how well I think we are and how positive we are and how encouraging we are, inspiring that we are and what this captain has done to unite, to unite like others as possibly no other captains has done in history.

“Making this team was a project of my passion. It was A1,” he added. “It was what I wanted to do the most, represent my country.”
Dechambeau has 2-3-1 in his career in the Ryder Cup, making his first team in 2018. He played with Tiger Woods, and the Ryder Cup 2018 is still the last time Woods competed in the event.
