King Charles had broken a long-standing royal tradition when Buckingham Palace issued the statement regarding the monarch’s shocking cancer diagnosis.
Despite the health scare, Charles remained positive and continued with his royal duties while undergoing weekly cancer treatments. It’s been more than a year and Charles revealed on Friday that his treatment may be reduced as he has improved.
Although sufficient information about the King’s health has been provided from the Palace, the only thing that has been kept strictly kept in a vault is the type of cancer he suffers from. Royal watchers have mused that if the Palace can reveal the news of the cancer, why does the guy remain unrevealed?
This has been a deliberate move at the insistence of doctors and cancer experts as a spokesperson finally explains the reasoning behind it.
“The advice from cancer experts is that, in her determination to support the entire cancer community, it is preferable for Her Majesty not to address her own specific condition but to speak to those affected by all forms of the disease,” the Palace spokesperson said in a statement.
Oncologists have previously noted that celebrity diagnoses may be well-intentioned, but often have a negative impact on medical experts and researchers.
Attention and resources end up going toward researching the treatment of a particular form of cancer rather than the disease as a whole. Sometimes this can overshadow other important aspects. Therefore, Charles’ message is intended to shed light on those with rare cancers, aggressive cancers, slow-moving cancers, undiagnosed cancers, incurable cancers.
