Officials said she was examined by Dr Muhammad Arif Khan, head of the ophthalmology department at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).

Prison sources said he had had blurred vision in his right eye and had also reported a headache.

Amid growing concerns over Imran’s deteriorating eyesight in custody, the Supreme Court took up the matter following a report filed by the former prime minister’s lawyer Salman Safdar. Acting as amicus curiae, Safdar reported that Imran had lost 85% vision in his right eye and expressed dissatisfaction with the medical facilities available in Adiala Jail. The report notes that the former prime minister had requested urgent access to specialist doctors.

In early March, another medical check-up was carried out at Adiala Jail, after which PIMS claimed that Imran had shown significant improvement in his vision after his second dose of an anti-VEGF intravitreal injection.

Imran has been detained since August 2023, serving time in Adiala jail in a £190 million corruption case.

Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were sentenced on December 20, 2025 to 17 years in prison in the Toshakhana-II case, which centers on allegations that the couple illegally withheld a set of Bulgari jewelry gifted by the Saudi crown prince during an official visit to Saudi Arabia.

They were convicted under section 409 of the Pakistan Penal Code and section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 164.25 million on each of them.
