The California Interscholastic Federation even made a change to allow biological females to receive medals first if their position was displaced by a transgender athlete.

“It is definitely crazy. I receive many comments from hatred, but I don’t care,” Hernández told Kcra-Tv with a smile. “I am a 16 -year -old girl with a crazy attitude, do you think it will care?”

According to the station, Hernández tried to avoid the center of attention before it was revealed that the athlete identified himself as a transgender. Hernández was third in the state -of -the -time state of the girls in 2024 before winning the event as Junior in 2025. Hernández also won in the height jump of the girls this year.

Hernández called the protests that followed “strange” and promised to take a page of critics and not compete again.

“I did what I wanted to do,” Hernández told the station. “I spent everything in everything, so that is what I really had to do. All this violent reaction, I am like, acted from Best and that is all that mattered to me.”

It is not clear if the new rules will enter California for the next season.
