- The fourth prime lens of canon ‘hybrid’ f/1.4 joins 24 mm, 35 mm and 50 mm
- 20 mm versatile of wide angle and rapid opening
- The list price is £ 1,919.99 / AU $ 2,999 (United States prices plus the start of TBC sales)
Canon continues to increase its rf ‘hybrid’ lenses designed for photos and videos with its latest incorporation, the RF 20 mm F1.4L VCM canon.
It is practically identical in size, weight and design to three other hybrid cousins f/1.4, 24 mm, 35 mm and 50 mm lenses (see them all next, above), but offers the broader perspective of the quartet.
The 20 mm focal length is widely used by Astro, Landscape, Architecture and Interior Photograph, in addition to that it is also useful for video work in tight spaces and, again, for scanning views.
Canon faster 20 mm lens has an opening of 11 f/1.4 blades that should be particularly useful for work with little light, while its close approach skills of only 0.2m could also offer a shallow depth of rare field with dynamic perspectives.
It is a expensive optics, mys: £ 1,919.99 / AU $ 2,999 (prices from the United States to follow) makes it the most expensive of the four cousins in around 15%. Even so, it is the only Fast 20 mm opening for the cameras without full mirror of canon.
Canon does not yet allow third -party brands to make glasses for their full frame cameras, which means that it could continue to be the only option for the main lovers of great angle for some time.
Does the most versatile hybrid cousin in Canon yet?
I had a brief practice with VCM RF 20 mm F1.4L at Canon UK headquarters before launch and lens is a family view. Its design is practically identical to the options of 24 mm, 35 mm and 50 mm in the canon hybrid lens line.
The weatherproof lens measures 76.5 x 99.3 mm and weighs 18.3 Oz / 519 g, which makes it an excellent adjustment with a camera like the EOS R5 II brand (see below), a logical pairing of the camera / lens, and like the other cousins, it presents a 67 mm thread for lens filters and a rear gel filter filter.
There is an iris ring (opening) with soft adjustments without ideal clicks for video, in addition to a ring control buttons too.
VCM means voice coil engine: it is the engine that drives the automatic approach, which Canon says it is fast, precise and almost silent. I can attest to the efficiency of the automatic approach from my short time with him and other lenses in the range.
As lens of the L series, the F1.4 of 20 mm is built for pros, with a complex lens element arrangement that should offer supreme sharpness and clarity. The lens includes, and breathe … two aspherical lenses, a super ud lens, two UD lenses and a BR lens, in addition to ASC, SWC and Super Spectra coatings.
In many ways, the VCM RF 20 mm F1.4L is the most convincing lens of the hybrid group, because there is simply no other lens like this. The RF 10-20 mm F4L IS STM is an ultra wide angle zoom with 5-star classification, but its maximum opening is F/4.
I can see that the 20 mm option is one of the most popular options in the canon hybrid lens range. It provides a wide versatile perspective for video work, particularly those that work in multiple appearance relationships, and looks like the center’s money money lens.
