Canon launched its diverse range of compact digital cameras in 1996 with the PowerShot 600, a 0.5 MP camera without a screen. Oh, how cameras have changed since then! And to commemorate 30 years of PowerShot, Canon has introduced a 30th anniversary edition of its most popular model today, the G7 X Mark III.
Previously available in black or silver versions, the new limited edition G7
It will ship in a specially designed anniversary box and will be available from April 23 for £859.99 (price TBA in US and Australia). For context, the list price of the original model is $879.99/£819.99, but it’s generally sold out online.
Functionally, the 30th Anniversary Edition is identical to the original model. First introduced in 2019, the G7 It has a folding touch screen and a beautifully designed compact body.

As well as announcing the 30th Anniversary Edition of the PowerShot G7 There are also two new lenses for their full-frame cameras, the RF 7-14mm F2.8-3.5L Fisheye STM and the RF 14mm F1.4L VCM; Of the latter I have shared my first impressions.
PowerShot is still alive
PowerShot seemed relegated to the history books after years of inactivity. However, that all changed when Canon launched the PowerShot V10, a unique 4K vlogging camera with built-in support, which was followed by the PowerShot V1.

Compact cameras are enjoying a resurgence. CIPA 2025 figures confirm a 30% increase in compact camera shipments year-on-year and a 50% increase in value, suggesting that premium models like the PowerShot G series are in vogue.
We also have every reason to expect more PowerShot models in the future, including the rumored PowerShot V3 travel zoom. For now, those still craving some G7 X Mark III action are in luck again: the new 30th Anniversary Edition will hit stores in April. And at this rate, the legendary series could live on and mark another milestone!
