Islamabad:
No criminal entering the Federal Capital can escape the eyes of the Chambers of the Safe City. SOON 3,200 additional avant -garde cameras will be installed with facial recognition characteristics and traffic violation detection, significantly improving the Safe City project in Islamabad.
The general director of Islamabad Safe City, Shakir Hussain Dawar, shared this during a media conference on Thursday with senior crime reporters. He said that a PC-1 worth RS17.4 billion has been prepared and presented to modernize the Safe City initiative.
DG Dawar stressed that in the light of the growing importance of artificial intelligence (AI), the Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Islamabad Ig Ali Nasir Rizvi, are paying special attention to the improvement of the infrastructure of the safe city. Currently, 2,758 cameras are installed throughout the city, of which 700 are enabled for AI. The planned addition of 3,200 advanced cameras will bring almost 100% of Islamabad under the surveillance of the chamber, which allows the authorities to maintain a comprehensive record of each individual entering the city.
In addition to the new cameras, seven high -power servers are also being integrated into the system. These servers will improve the capacities of new and existing chambers, which allows facial recognition, detection of plates and other critical characteristics.
DG Dawar revealed that, thanks to the current surveillance system, 77 criminal gangs have been identified and 32 have already been arrested. The authorities actively pursue the remaining 45 gangs. Real -time monitoring is carried out at the headquarters of Safe City, and any suspicious activity or individuals is immediately informed to the field police units, which often leads to rapid arrests.
He also mentioned that when the Safe City project was initially launched, only a few cameras had facial recognition capabilities. However, since more advanced cameras enabled for AI have been acquired. With the next updates, the cameras mounted on the roofs will be able to capture clear images of individuals within moving vehicles, allowing precise identification.
E-Post control points are also being used to monitor incoming and outgoing traffic. During the past year, these systems have led to the arrest of 1,000 individuals sought in several cases and the recovery of more than 1,000 stolen vehicles.
DG Dawar said that vehicles are more common in the urban areas of Islamabad. Currently, the entire camera system is executed in just two servers. The plans are underway to install 14 new, powerful and expensive servers, which will allow even greater cameras and not to work with AI capabilities.
In addition, new fiber optic cables are being placed throughout the city to support this expanded infrastructure. These efforts are intended to improve public safety and allow faster detention of criminals.
He added that the suspects involved in several recent high -profile crimes have been arrested through the help of AI technology and surveillance images. The system automatically generates alerts if a known criminal enters the camera range.
“Around 60-70% of criminals in Islamabad come from outside the city, so we are focusing more on the entrance and exit points of the capital,” he said.
