‘Central NDMA body for disaster preparation’


Islamabad:

The Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, informed the Senate on Friday that the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) serves as the central body to coordinate the preparation and response of disasters throughout the country.

Answering the questions during the time of questions of the Upper House, he said that the NDMA was established by virtue of the National Disaster Management Law, 2010, with the provincial authorities of disaster management that operate at their respective provincial levels.

The minister said that the main responsibilities of the NDMA include coordination with federal and international institutions to forecast possible disasters, such as floods and earthquakes, and to guarantee timely warnings to mitigate the loss of lives and properties.
