- When ChatGPT uses the GPT-4.5 model, you can pass the Turing test cheating for most people to think it is human
- Almost three quarters of people in a study believed that AI was human during a five -minute conversation.
- Chatgpt is not aware of or aware of himself, although he raises questions about how to define intelligence
Artificial intelligence sounds quite human for many people, but in general, you can say quite fast when you get involved with an AI model. However, that can change how Openai’s new GPT-4.5 model passed Turing’s test by deceiving people to think he was a human in the course of a five-minute conversation. Not only some people, but 73% of those participating in a study by the University of California, San Diego.
In fact, GPT-4.5 surpassed some of the real human participants, who were accused of being in the blind test. Even so, the fact that AI had such a good impression of a human being that seemed more human than real humans say a lot about the brightness of the machine or how uncomfortable humans can be.
The participants sat for two consecutive conversations with a human and a chatbot, not knowing which one, and had to identify the AI after. To help GPT-4.5 to succeed, the model received a detailed personality to imitate in a series of indications. He was told to act as an introverted young, slightly uncomfortable, but an internet expert with a dry humor streak.
With that little push towards humanity, GPT-4.5 became surprisingly convincing. Of course, as soon as the indications were stripped and the AI returned to a blank personality and history, the illusion collapsed. Suddenly, GPT-4.5 could only deceive 36% of those studied. That sudden nourish tells us something critical: this is not a mind that wakes up. It is a language model that plays a role. And when you forget your characters, it is just another self -fulfillment.
Intelligence is not consciousness
The result is historical, no doubt. Therefore, Alan Turing’s proposal that a machine capable of talking well enough to be confused with a human could have human intelligence has been discussed since he presented it in 1950. The philosophers and engineers have dealt with the Turing test and their implications, but suddenly, the theory is much more real.
Turing did not equal his test with proof of consciousness or self -consciousness. That is not what the Turing test really measures. Closing the vibrations of the human conversation is huge, and the way in which GPT-4.5 evoked real human interaction is impressive, until it offered slightly shameful anecdotes. But if you believe that intelligence should include real self -reflection and emotional connections, then you probably don’t worry about humanity’s infiltration still.
GPT-4.5 Does not feel nervous before speaking. He doesn’t care if he cheated you. The model is not proud to pass the test, since it does not even know what a test is. Only “knows” the things that a dictionary knows the definition of words. The model is simply a black box of probabilities wrapped in a cozy linguistic sweater that makes you feel comfortable.
The researchers made the same point that GPT-4.5 was not aware. He is acting, not receiving. But performances, as we all know, can be powerful. We cry in the movies. We fell in love with the fictitious characters. If a chatbot offers a sufficient convincing act, our brains are more than happy to complete the rest. It is not surprising that 25% of the Z generation now believes that AI is already aware of itself.
There is a place to debate about this, of course. If a machine speaks like a person, does it matter if it is not one? And regardless of the deepest philosophical implications, an AI that can fool that many people could be a threat to unusual hands. What happens when the soft tala customer service representative is not a harassed intern in Tulsa, but an AI trained to sound outstandingly useful, specifically for people like you, to pay a subscription update?
Maybe the best way to think about it is like a dog with a suit that walks on its hind legs. Of course, it may seem like a small entrepreneur on the way to the office, but it is only human training and perception that gives that impression. It is not a natural appearance or behavior, and does not mean that banks will deliver commercial loans to the canines in the short term. The trick is impressive, but it is still just a trick.
