Fall detector reports have decreased

In addition to OpenAI confirming that it has implemented a fix for the “high errors” issues and is monitoring ChatGPT, reports of issues with the service have decreased significantly on Down Detector.

As of 4:28 pm ET in the United States, ChatGPT has 333 reports.

ChatGPT says the main issue is fixed

At 4:21 p.m. ET, OpenAI updated its status page and wrote: “We have identified the issue, applied the necessary mitigations, and are monitoring the recovery.” And that’s in line with when we saw some recovery and saw the AI ​​chatbot working normally again.

My colleague Matt has shared that he is back in the UK and “working quite well”. Hopefully, this means ChatGPT is on your side too, if this issue affected you.

I have decided to go to the source; my ChatGPT Plus account in the US gave me a pretty happy answer when I asked if it was backed by an outage. Noting that it’s “a little reset, with a little caffeine (metaphorically) and it feels pretty good.”

ChatGPT is recovering from an outage

There are several Reddit threads, including many pointing out when ChatGPT first went down and one saying that the popular AI chatbot returned about 18 minutes ago. You can see that here and judging by the many responses, it looks like ChatGPT has recovered.

On the VPN front, Matt is testing ChatGPT on a few different VPNs; appears to be working in the United States, Ireland, Canada, India and Poland, although the latter two are a bit slower to respond to queries.

Judging by the comments and my colleague Matt’s own shared experience, it seems that ChatGPT is having a hard time outside of the United States as of now. It could be that OpenAI is testing the mitigation here before rolling it out globally.

Comments on Down Detector note that it is down in the US (which is my current experience, although it’s a bit slow) and that it doesn’t work internationally yet, with Hungary specifically mentioned.

My colleague Matt still can’t get ChatGPT to respond in the UK, but it responds instantly when using a US VPN. So that might be a solution for now.

OpenAI at least quickly confirms the issues with ChatGPT, and here’s a look at the popular AI chatbot’s status page, which details the issues currently active. Given the high error rates in tuning work and the platform itself, OpenAI has identified the causes and is working on mitigations.

The latter could explain the drop in reports about Down Detector.
