Here’s a look at Down Detector, where you can see a fairly rapid spike near the end of the hour for issues with ChatGPT and OpenAI.
OpenAI confirms an active issue with ChatGPT availability
If you’re wondering what those error messages look like, here’s what my colleague Eric Schwartz shared with me. Received this error: “Hmm… something seems to have gone wrong.” on mobile devices, but also received the following error on desktop computers.
OpenAI posted an additional update and wrote: “We are investigating the issue for the listed services.” starting at 12:50 pm Eastern Time. This might suggest that the OpenAI team is still investigating what’s causing the issues, but I’ll also note that we’re seeing a slight drop in reports on Down Detector, down to 8,830.
While my ChatGPT Plus is still responsive, it’s taking me a little longer to respond to queries, both simple and a little more extravagant.
Well, now there’s better news! Along with reports of Down Detector hovering around 1,000, OpenAI has updated the incident on its status page to note that it is now monitoring the recovery. And that means they’ve issued a fix for whatever the underlying issue was, causing a “ChatGPT availability” issue.
