China said on Saturday that his military monitored the passage of Australian and Canadian war ships through the Taiwan Strait, criticizing his presence in the sensitive river route as “causing problems.”
Beijing sees Taiwan as part of its territory and claims the jurisdiction over the body of water that separates the self -managed island from the Chinese continent.
“On September 6, the Canadian frigate ‘Quebec’ and the Australian destroyer ‘Brisbane’ transmitted the Taiwan Strait, causing problems and causing,” said Colonel Senior Shi Yi, spokesman for the Eastern Theater Command of the People’s Liberation Army (Pla).
The PLA “organized the naval and aerial forces to monitor and supervise all its transits, responding and effectively handling the situation,” Shi said in a statement.
“The actions of Canada and Australia send the wrong signals and increase security risks,” he added.
“[Chinese] The troops remain on a maximum alert at all times, resolving resolutely national sovereignty and regional security and peace and stability. “
Beijing has increased the deployment of combat airplanes and naval vessels around Taiwan in recent years to press his claim for sovereignty, which Taipei rejects.
The United States often sends ships through the Taiwan Strait, and several of its western allies have increased their presence with regular transits, although less common.
In June, China criticized the United Kingdom for sending a Patrol de la Marina ship through the river route, saying that “peace and stability undermined.”
