Firaxis has shared its plans for Civilization 7Post-launch content, including an update that has been highly requested since the game’s launch.
In its latest blog post, the studio confirmed that it is now testing several new features it plans to add to the game, including “dramatic changes” to Legacy Paths and Victories, as well as the return of a mechanic that allows players to play the same civilization continuously from start to finish.
The feature, which was available on all Civilization game before civilization 7but it was changed in the last entry with its new “Ages” system, which requires players to choose a new civilization divided into three ages: Ancient, Exploration, and Modern.
“Many of you have asked for a roadmap detailing our future upgrade plans. This is a very fair request, but we have refrained from providing too many details until we knew that the major upgrades we wanted to make had a clear path forward and were sufficiently developed. We’ve made some good progress here, so I can now share an update on two of the most important things in motion,” Firaxis said.
“First, we are testing some dramatic changes to the Legacy and Victory Paths in Civilization VII. We want to open up the game and provide many new paths for your empire to follow as you achieve greatness and compete for victory.
“Secondly, and this has been one of the most requested features by players, we are internally testing ways to play as a civilization continuously through time, allowing you to choose a civilization from any era and guide it along your journey through history.”
Additionally, Firaxis is also starting a new initiative called Firaxis Feature Workshop, which will invite a small number of players to try out Civ 7 features in development and provide feedback.
The developer also said that updates will become less frequent as testing and iteration of these new changes takes place.
In the meantime, players can look forward to patch 1.3.0, which will introduce a marine-themed content pack called tides of power. This collection will be free for all players and can be claimed from November 4 to January 5, 2026, on all platforms.
