The joy of winning the Super Bowl had barely disappeared when CJ Gardner-Johnson learned of his trade to the Houston Texans. Even now, the former defensive star of the Philadelphia Eagles is still surprised by the abrupt decision.

For the Eagles, the decision to go from Gardner-Johnson seemed to be strictly financial.
“Every dollar you spend is a less dollar that you can spend on some of these younger players that you may want to retain,” said General Manager Howie Roseman last month at the annual meeting of the NFL League, through NBC Sports Philadelphia. “Going to this was important for us. And again, difficult decisions. Not asking anyone to agree with them, but that is part of our work.”
