CJP Aphridi meets the IMF delegation to discuss judicial reforms

A delegation of six members of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) met with the president of the Supreme Court Yahya Afridi in the Pakistan Supreme Court, Express News reported Tuesday.

According to the sources, the meeting focused on the judicial system of Pakistan and the possible reforms. The president of the Supreme Court informed the IMF team about current legal improvements and governance challenges.

Meanwhile, the opposition leader of the National Assembly, Omar Ayub, had also announced that his party will present concerns about the 2024 general elections and the 26th constitutional amendment before the IMF delegation.

“We will present the entire issue of the elections to the IMF delegation,” said Ayub. “We will also highlight the problems caused by the 26th amendment,” he said.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the managing director (MD) of the IMF, Kristalina Georgieva, will meet today in Dubai three weeks before the expected starting conversations of the revision of March 3 for the section of loans of $ 1 billion.

The meeting is ahead of a crucial review for the next loan section of $ 1 billion.

Government and diplomatic sources told The Express PAkGazette that the meeting would take place outside the world governments in Dubai. Pakistan has requested the meeting.

This will be the third meeting between Prime Minister Sharif and Georgieva in the last 10 months. The prime minister left on Monday for an official two -day visit to the United Arab Emirates (EAU) to attend the summit.
