Faisalabad:
The Faisalabad Waste Management Company (FWMC) will begin to collect a cleaning rate of residents and business owners throughout the division as of September 1.
A surcharge from RS10 will be imposed to the Moracosa.
The Punjab cabinet had approved the introduction of a cleaning rate earlier this year, after the launch of the South Punjab program in 2024.
FWMC spokesman, Mateb Virk, told The Express PAkGazette that the recovery process would be carried out in phases, starting with commercial consumers.
He said that around 81,000 commercial units have registered in Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Chinast and Jhang.
The registration of national consumers is underway and their rates collection will begin after three months.
According to the company, commercial consumers have divided into three categories: small (stores), medium (schools, universities) and large (warehouses, power looms).
In urban areas, the monthly rate has been established in RS500, RS1,000 and RS3,000 respectively, while in rural areas the rates will be RS300, RS700 and RS2,000.
For national consumers in urban areas, the rate will be RS300 per month for a house in 5 Marla, RS500 for 5-10 Marlas, RS1,000 for 10-20 Marlas, RS2,000 by 20-40 Marlas and RS5,000 for houses greater than 40 Marlas.
In rural areas, the rate will be RS200 for houses of 10 Marla and RS400 for houses greater than 10 Marlas.
FWMC’s finance manager, Ahsan Nadeem, said the Punjab government is drafting additional legislation on the application and sanctions for lack of payment.
Contractors will be responsible for distributing invoices and guaranteeing recovery, and will face strong fines or deductions for not meeting the objectives.
He added that municipal inspectors can be temporarily designated until FWMC recruits their own compliance staff.
These inspectors will be authorized to impose fines on people who are garbage.
