Cm presents ‘change of game’ projects

Punjab Prime Minister Maryam Nawaz, Sharif, inaugurated the elevated Nawaz Sharif step in Adiala Road and GPO’s underground step in Mall Road in Rawalpindi on Tuesday, marking the completion of two important infrastructure projects aimed at improving traffic flow in the city.

During the opening ceremony, CM Maryam announced plans to launch clean drinking water projects in Punjab, including South Punjab and the Potohar region. He highlighted the rapid development rhythm, noting that the roads that are neglected for 30 years are now being built in record time.

The two mega projects, completed at a cost of RS8.77 billion, opened to traffic after the inauguration. The Nawaz Sharif Flyover connects Katchehry Chowk to GT Road, the Rawalpindi Ring Road and Chakri exchange, significantly reducing the travel time in more than an hour and saving the travelers millions of fuel costs. The service roads have also been built on both sides of the high pass, which covers two kilometers.

The GPO underground passage, located in Mall Road, is part of a corridor without signals from Gpo Chewk to TM Chowk and will facilitate more than 200,000 vehicles per day. The project includes a modern intelligent signal system and an underground pedestrian crossing near hobby for public convenience. The underground step also improves connectivity with Cashmiro Road and the National Highway (N-5), benefiting patients traveling to CMH, MH and fans hospitals.

The residents welcomed the prime minister with flower petals and slogans during his visit. CM Maryam recognized the support and information sessions provided by the provincial minister of Communication and Works Malik Sohaib Bharth and Secretary Sohail Ashraf. She shared that 51 of 67 road development projects in Rawalpindi, which cover 607 km, have already been completed.

Speaking at the ceremony, CM Maryam said these projects are “games of games” for the people of Rawalpindi and reaffirmed their commitment to public welfare through improved infrastructure. He also announced the remodeling of Katchehry Road and Mall Road.

The prime minister revealed plans to place new pipes for drinking water and address the problem of water supply of Murree. In addition, he announced the preparation of an important project for the construction and expansion of Nullah Leh and promised to complete the Rawalpindi Ring Road in record time.

CM Maryam said the relocation of all schools in Rawalpindi is underway and almost completion. She is personally monitoring the beautification projects of the city and emphasized the need for visible improvements at Punjab borders, pointing out the difference in cleaning and infrastructure once they enter the neighboring regions.

Under the ‘Clean Punjab’ project, he said that sanitation efforts are being strengthened throughout the province. More than 12,000 kilometers of roads, and 1,250 basic health units have been renewed in mini hospitals have been built or repaired.

Construction and beautification works have been completed in both underground steps along Saddar Mall Road.

The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) has now launched the horticulture phase, including the plantation of central medians, green belts and metro pillars along Murree Road.
