Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on Tuesday underlined the importance of inter-agency cooperation, modern policing practices and building public confidence in law enforcement personnel.
During a visit to the National Police Academy (NPA) in Islamabad, Field Marshal Asim emphasized that a strong, professional and people-centric police force is indispensable to ensure internal security and uphold the rule of law.
“The duty of the police to enforce law and order is a sacred trust, and the armed forces will always fully support the brave and proud police personnel of Pakistan,” Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) quoted Field Marshal Asim as addressing senior police officials.
The ISPR said the army chief acknowledged the supreme sacrifices made by police personnel in the face of terrorism, crime and internal security challenges. He also received information about the School for High Impact Elite Law Enforcement Development (SHIELD), along with ongoing training programs and initiatives aimed at capacity building and modernization of the police.
While interacting with the cadet Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP), Field Marshal Asim highlighted the vital role of police as the first line of defense in safeguarding lives, property and honor of citizens, the ISPR said.
Addressing the inspectors general of police (IGP), additional IGPs and other senior officers, he again highlighted the need for effective inter-agency coordination, adoption of modern policing methods and sustained efforts to build public confidence in law enforcement institutions, he added.
On the occasion, senior police leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening police standards, improving professional capacity and carrying out the necessary institutional reforms to address contemporary security challenges.
Earlier, the NPA Commander warmly received Field Marshal Asim upon his arrival. An elegantly formed police contingent presented a guard of honor. He also laid a wreath at the Police Martyrs Monument and offered it to Fateha.
Paying solemn tribute to the Police Shuhada, Field Marshal Asim honored those who laid down their lives in the line of duty safeguarding peace, upholding the rule of law and ensuring public safety across the country, the ISPR said. Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Minister of State for Home Affairs Talal Chaudhry were also present during the visit, he added.
