Less than a month ago, Coco Gound was at the top of the world of tennis as the champion of the France Open. Now, she is at the bottom.
The 21-year-old tennis phenom dropped his first round of Wimbledon championships on Tuesday in Dyana Yastremska of Ukraine, 7-6 (7-3), 6-1.
Yastremska qualified as high as the 21st in the world in January 2020, but entered Tuesday’s contest at number 46. His best final in a Grand Slam was his semifinal of the Australian Open 2024.

Gonff, which occupies the number 2 position in the world, had a total of 29 united errors and nine double offenses. Meanwhile, Yastremska said he was “on fire” throughout the day.
Gobal joined Jessica Pegula, who lost the earliest Tuesday, in the round of the discomfort of American women.
The grass court tournament has proven to be its less successful specialty. It is the only Slam where Gound has not done at least the semifinals. He has still overcome the fourth round and has now been sent home in the first round twice in the last three years.
The transition of Clay To Grass has proven difficult for most players, and the last woman to win the open of France and Wimbledon in the same season was Serena Williams a decade ago.

Even so, since the era opened in 1968, only Justine Henin in 2005 and Francesca Schiavone in 2010 went from celebrating the trophy in Paris to the exit immediately in London.
Yastremska now has a 11-11 first round record in Grand Slams. The Govef, on the contrary, was 20-3 at that stage, including a defeat against SofĂa Kenin in Wimbledon in 2023.
Yastremska’s deepest race in Wimbledon was doing the fourth round in 2019, although he reached the final of the Junior event in 2016. He recently reached his first final of the Tournament in Grass, in a smaller event in Nottingham, who said he gave confidence to All England Club.

“I love playing in grass. I feel that this year we are friends,” Yastremska said with a smile. “I hope the road will continue for me here.”
