Cointelegraph Hit by exploit front-end, Phishing Airdrop False on the website

The Cointegraph media crypto outlet has confirmed that its website was compromised by an exploit of Front-End on Sunday, with attackers injecting a malicious emerging window that falsely claimed to offer “Cointelegraph Ico Airdrops” and “CTG Tokens”.

The false banner urged readers to connect their cryptographic wallets in exchange for tokens worth almost $ 5,500, citing a “fair launch” event and a false auditing of CERTIK to provide legitimacy to the scam.

“Do not click on these emerging windows, connect your wallets or enter any personal information,” Cointelegraph warned in an X publication, and added that “I was actively working on a solution.”

The victims are usually deceived to connect wallets for tokens claims, identity verification or loyalty rewards, only for their funds to deviate immediately later.

The tactic reflects an almost identical exploit in CoinmarketCap two days before, where the attackers integrated a similar code to serve indications of wallet phishing.

In both cases, the attack was based on kidnapping trusted platforms to avoid user skepticism, turning the news and data sites into involuntary vectors for wallet drainners.
